Are women happy with their breast Size? Some say they have small breasts and some say they have a large breast. Generally a majority of women, according to a new survey, are not satisfied with the size of their breasts.
The Survey – Breast Size Satisfaction Survey – was conducted in 18,541 women in forty. The study has been published in Body Image journal. With the survey conducted in forty countries, this has become the largest ever survey in this regard.
The study was led by Professor Viren Swami of Anglia Ruskin University and the survey was conducted by about 100 international experts.
In the survey, they found that 48 per cent of women wanted to have larger breasts than they had. About 23 per cent wanted smaller breasts. The survey says that only 29 per cent of women were satisfied with their breast size. The average age of women who participated in the survey was 34.
The Study
dissatisfied with their breast size were less likely to practice self-examination of their breasts, which is said to be needed for detecting changes and also needed for early detection of cancer.
The study found that breast size dissatisfaction was associated with poor psychological well being, which included lower levels of self-esteem.
It has also been said that women are dissatisfied with their breast size were likely to be dissatisfied with their overall appearance and weight.
It has been said in the survey that women in Japan, Brazil, Egypt, UK and China are the most dissatisfied of their breast size. Meanwhile, women in India, Egypt, Pakistan, Lebanon, and UK have the largest ideal breast size. It has also been said women in Japan, Philippines, Austria, Malaysia and Germany have the smallest ideal breast size.
Lead researcher Viren Swami said that it was a serious issue as it involves the physical as well as psychological well-being of women. He also said that their study showed that objectification of medium to large breasts was a global phenomenon now.
The study also found that dissatisfaction over breast size decreased with age.
Older women have less pressure to attain or maintain breast size ideals.
Breastfeeding encourage women to focus on its functional purpose rather than looking at them in aesthetic terms.

Is there any natural way to reduce size?
Yes, it is possible to reduce breast size with exercise and diet changes.
1. Diet: The breasts are mostly made up of adipose tissue, or fat. Losing body fat can reduce a person’s breast size. A low-calorie, highly nutritious diet can indirectly help to shrink the tissue.
Focus on eating nutrient-dense foods that are low in calories. Fruits, vegetables, fatty fish, such as salmon, and lean meats, such as grilled chicken, can help a person feel full while still supporting healthy weight loss.
2. Exercise: Like diet, exercise can help a person lose body fat, which might also help reduce breast size over time. Cardiovascular exercises that increase a person’s heart rate are highly effective at burning fat. Depending on health and fitness factors, people can try running, swimming, or taking brisk walks.
3. Reduce estrogen: Flaxseed may help reduce estrogen levels. Estrogen plays a key role in the development of breast tissue. So countering excess estrogen could reduce size, especially in people with hormonal imbalances.
4. Binding: Binding involves wrapping material tightly around the breasts to flatten them. It will not shrink breast tissue or prevent the them from growing, but binding can help the them look smaller and may make a person feel more comfortable.
5. Change bra: A bra cannot permanently change the size, but minimizer bras can create the illusion of smaller size.
Most of the time women are not aware of choosing the correct bra size.
FACTORS
Just as genes help dictate the hair, skin color, tallness and other characteristics, they also have some impact on your breast size.
If breasts contain a higher concentration of fatty tissue, then one could see a difference in size when one gain or lose weight.
Breast augmentation positively influenced women’s self-confidence, self-esteem, and overall satisfaction with their body image, subsequently enhancing their sexual desire and arousal.
SIZE OF BRA
Manufacturers strive to create bras that cater to the diverse characteristics of women’s breasts, addressing factors such as shape, size, position, symmetry, spacing, firmness, and sag. Concurrently, individual women face the challenge of discerning well-fitting bras from various styles and sizing systems.
The considerable variability in the attributes of women’s breasts necessitates a nuanced approach. Bra size labeling systems employed by manufacturers exhibit inconsistency not only across different countries but even within a single nation. Research indicates that the labeled bra size often deviates from the actual measured size.
Given the absence of international standards, approximately 25% of women encounter difficulties in securing a bra that fits properly. In response to these challenges, some women opt for custom-made bras tailored to the unique contours of their breasts.
EVOLUTION OF BRA TERMINOLOGY (1916-1932): A CUP EMERGES
In 1916, the term “cup” made its debut in the realm of bras, coinciding with the filing of two patents. Fast forward to October 1932, and S.H. Camp and Company revolutionized the landscape by introducing alphabet letters (A, B, C, and D) to signify cup sizes. It’s crucial to note that, at this point, these letters indicated the pendulousness of breasts, not their actual volume.
ADVERTISING INNOVATION (1933-1935): LETTER-LABELED PROFILES AND NICKNAMES
S.H. Camp’s advertising in the February 1933 issue of Corset and Underwear Review showcased letter-labeled breast profiles, setting a trend. Despite the letters A to D not initially catering to larger-breasted women, Warner’s took a groundbreaking step in 1935 with the introduction of the Alphabet Bra. This line incorporated breast volume into sizing, laying the foundation for the contemporary system still in use today. Notably, these cup sizes quickly garnered amusing nicknames, including egg cup, tea cup, coffee cup, and challenge cup.
INDUSTRY EXPANSION; SIZES ACROSS BRANDS
The late 1930s witnessed the expansion of the cup size concept, with other companies like Model and Fay-Miss (later renamed the Bali Brassiere Company) following suit. A, B, C, and D cup sizes became the norm. However, catalogue companies continued using simpler designations like Small, Medium, and Large until the 1940s.
INTERNATIONAL VARIATIONS AND ADOPTION CHALLENGES
While the U.S. embraced cup sizes in the early 1930s, Britain resisted until 1948. Sears Company finally introduced cup sizes to its catalogue in the 1950s, marking a significant shift in the international adoption of standardized bra terminology.
STANDARDIZATION CHALLENGES AND BAND MEASUREMENT REVOLUTION (1930S-1940S)
Despite the widespread use of similar descriptions for bra sizes, such as A to D or Small to Large, there was a lack of standardization. Each company maintained its own standards, creating confusion among consumers.
BAND ADJUSTMENTS AND POST-WAR INNOVATION (1930S-1950S)
In the 1930s, the introduction of multiple hook and eye closures allowed for adjustable bands, steering away from the corset era. Before bras became the norm, corset and girdle manufacturers employed the hip spring calculation to conform to the perceived ideal female body shape. Post-World War II, U.S. bra manufacturers developed the band measurement system we recognize today, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of bra design.
MEASURING
Measuring the breasts for optimal results involves two steps: first while standing upright, and then while bending over at the waist with the breasts hanging down. If the difference between these two measurements exceeds 10 cm, choose the average for calculating the cup size. Numerous reports, surveys, and studies across different countries reveal that 80% to 85% of women incorrectly wear fitted bras.
