Maharashtra is set to launch India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) university, marking a major step in technological advancement. The state’s Information Technology (IT) Department has partnered with the Higher and Technical Education Department in this respect. They have already formed a task force to oversee the project.
A Vision for AI Excellence
Minister of Information Technology Ashish Shelar emphasized the importance of this initiative. He stated that the AI university will drive research, skill-building, and innovation in artificial intelligence. “This task force will be instrumental in developing a global center of excellence in AI. It will work closely with the Government of India,” Shelar said.
TRAINING FUTURE AI LEADERS
The university will focus on preparing experts in AI systems. It aims to position Maharashtra as a hub for AI education. The state seeks technological breakthroughs. This move aligns with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) vision to enhance technology-driven education and boost career opportunities for students.
WHO IS ON THE TASK FORCE?
The task force will be led by the principal secretary of the IT department. It includes influential members such as:
- Directors of IIT Mumbai and IIM Mumbai
- Representatives from Google India, Mahindra Group, and L&T
- Officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India
A COLLABORATIVE APPROACH
Shelar highlighted that the AI university will foster collaboration between academia, industry, and the government. “This initiative will place Maharashtra at the forefront of AI. It will also contribute to India’s technological progress,” he noted.
