The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is thrilled to announce the return of its eagerly awaited annual event, the Panda Paddle, set to take place from August 4 to 13. This distinctive fundraising initiative is designed to inspire active participation in nature, foster connections among like-minded conservationists, and contribute significantly to WWF’s global conservation endeavours.

ATHLETIC FUNDRAISING

Marked as WWF’s flagship athletic fundraising event, Panda Paddle serves the dual purpose of raising awareness and funds for worldwide conservation while offering a delightful aquatic experience. This event uniquely connects individuals with nature right in their local communities. In light of the recent recording of the hottest day on record this past July, WWF extends an invitation to all to “cool off” and relish in their favourite water activities, be it standup paddling, kayaking, canoeing, and more. With its sixth edition, Panda Paddle boasts the engagement of over 3,000 paddlers since its inception in 2018. Notably, the event has amassed nearly $1 million to support the cause of nature conservation.

A remarkable addition this year is the inaugural virtual kickoff event featuring Lou Harris, the founder of the Black Surfing Association East Coast branch. Harris will join forces with pro paddler and surfer Anthony Vela, as well as Charles Sumpter, WWF’s Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, for a captivating dialogue on the historical trajectory of the Black surfing experience and the pressing need for amplified representation in both water sports and conservation.

TAKING PART

To partake in the Panda Paddle initiative, enthusiastic individuals can enlist via WWF’s dedicated Panda Paddle website, either as individuals or as part of a team. Registration comes with a nominal fee of $40, and while there is no set minimum for fundraising, participants are encouraged to secure essential funds to bolster WWF’s global conservation initiatives. Between August 4 and 13, participants can select their preferred time and location for their water activity, thus blending recreation with purposeful contribution. Expressing gratitude for the substantial fundraising milestones achieved, WWF rewards individuals with exclusive incentives including a Panda Paddle race shirt, a Panda Paddle beach towel, and other tokens of appreciation. Additionally, all registrants will be honoured with a Panda Paddle medal, symbolizing their unwavering commitment to conservation. Notably, the highest fundraiser will be awarded a personalized Infinity SUP paddleboard adorned with the official artwork of Panda Paddle 2023.

To propagate inspiration and stimulate wider involvement, WWF encourages participants to share their event experiences by using the hashtag #PandaPaddle across various social media platforms.
