The Vande Sadharan train, introduced in 2023 by the Indian Railways, stands out as a cost-effective travel alternative, catering to long-distance travelers seeking affordability without compromising on modern amenities. While it shares similarities with the Vande Bharat train, it’s tailored for budget-conscious passengers seeking comfort within their means.
VANDE SADHARAN VS. VANDE BHARAT
The Vande Sadharan train prioritizes budget-conscious passengers over speed and luxury. It offers affordability while incorporating modern amenities, making it an attractive choice for those prioritizing savings over premium services.
FEATURES AND AMENITIES
The Vande Sadharan train boasts 22 coaches accommodating up to 1,834 passengers. It’s equipped with bio-vacuum toilets, passenger information systems, and charging points, ensuring convenience throughout the journey. Colored in orange strips and grey, it comprises 12 sleeper non-AC coaches, eight general coaches, and two luggage coaches.
MANUFACTURING DETAILS
Manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai at a cost of Rs 65 crore, the train features electric locomotives at both ends. While 12 sleeper class coaches, eight general coaches, and two guard coaches form the 22-coach train, the locomotives themselves are sourced from elsewhere.
SPEED AND COMFORT
In comparison to the Vande Bharat train’s semi-high-speed capability of 160 km/h, the Vande Sadharan train operates at a maximum speed of 130 km/h. Unlike the Vande Bharat, the Vande Sadharan train lacks reclining seats, air conditioning, and entertainment systems, prioritizing affordability over luxury.
TARGET AUDIENCE AND PRICE
The Vande Bharat train caters to passengers seeking faster, more comfortable travel at a premium price. Conversely, the train targets passengers looking for a pocket-friendly option without compromising significantly on essential amenities.
PRODUCTION PLANS
The Indian Railways have proposed the production of 102 Vande Bharat rakes, with 35 slated for manufacture in 2022-2023 and 67 in 2023-2024. These will be produced across various coach factories, including the Integral Coach Factory, the Rail Coach Factory, and the Modern Coach Factory.
The Vande Sadharan train emerges as an economical travel choice, offering essential amenities while prioritizing affordability. With its capacity, amenities, and affordability, it stands as a testament to the Indian Railways’ commitment to providing diverse travel options to passengers with varying preferences and budgets.
