Indians are known as vegans and our vegetarian cuisine. But, only a few may know that the oldest vegetarian is not in India, but in Zurich, the largest city in Switzerland.
Haus Hiltl has been recognised by the Guinness World Records as the oldest continuously running vegetarian restaurant in the world. It was started in 1898, and is now run by the fourth generation of the Hiltl family.
It was started by Ambrosius Hiltl in 1898 as Vegetarierheim and Abstinence-Café. It was again revamped in 1925. It has eigh branches now. It provides a fine mix of Indian, Mediterranean, Swiss and Asian flavours. and offers quite a lot for the vegans as well. Their delights have exciting names too, like Native Superfoods, Magical Morocco, Orient Express, World of Spices, Vietnam Pho & Co, Margrith Hilts Indian Kitchen Vegan Love Story!
It is also known for its Hiltl’s buffet, where you can customise your meal and pay by weight. They also run cooking classes for the interested people to pick up lessons on vegan culinary.

We cook our dishes fresh every day in our own kitchen and confectionery with devotion and love for detail. We focus on local and regional produce, fresh, ripe fruits and vegetables. To provide a global menu, around 300 employees from over 80 nations are working in the restaurant chain which has a lavish green spread, enticing any vegan food lover.
