The Fable Enters Berlinale’s Global Stage

In a groundbreaking moment for Indian cinema, Manoj Bajpayee takes the spotlight in “The Fable,” a cinematic gem directed by Raam Reddy. It stands as the sole Indian film competing in a key category at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival, following Reddy’s acclaimed debut, “Thithi.” Set to premiere in the competitive Encounters Competition segment alongside 14 global titles, this US-Indian co-production features a stellar cast including Deepak Dobriyal, Priyanka Bose, Tillotama Shome, Hiral Sidhu, and the talented child actor Awan Pookot.

Manoj Bajpayee shares his excitement, stating, “Joining the cast of ‘The Fable’ has been a remarkable experience. Working with a creative mind like Raam Reddy and participating in an A-festival backed by an international production house for the first time has been incredibly inspiring. Our film’s presence at Berlinale signifies the global reach and artistic caliber of Indian storytelling.”

NOT JUST A FILM

Raam Reddy, the film’s writer and director, expresses his deep connection to “The Fable,” stating, “It is not just a film but an unadulterated piece of my soul. I feel fortunate for many things: collaborating with Manoj ji’s brilliance, a wonderful cast, premiering in a competitive section of Berlinale, and having global backing for the film. But most importantly, for the opportunity to tell this story exactly as I envisioned.” Backed by veteran producer Sunmim Park, known for producing international hits like ‘The Others’ starring Nicole Kidman, this film carries the weight of significant international support.

Raam Reddy’s debut feature, “Thithi,” achieved critical and commercial success, securing over 20 international awards, running for nearly 100 days in theatres, and earning worldwide rights with Netflix.

In this exclusive cinematic journey, “The Fable” stands as a beacon of Indian storytelling, transcending boundaries with its global collaboration, a powerhouse cast, and Raam Reddy’s soulful vision. As it graces Berlinale’s global stage, it marks a significant return for Indian cinema in the Encounters Competition. The last Indian film in this category was “The Shepherdess and The Seven Songs” in 2020, and the Main Competition hasn’t seen an Indian film since “Shelter of the Wings,” directed by Buddhadeb Dasgupta in 1994.
