Super Star Rajnikanth is to be conferred with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for 2019. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced this on April 1. It will be presented on May 3, along with the National Film Awards, the Minister said.
Union Minister Javedkar in a tweet said Happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2020 to one of the greatest actors in history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic.”
The Jury comprised on Asha Bhosle, Mohanlal, Biswajit Chatterjee, Shankar Mahadevan and Subhash Ghai. Announcing the award in New Delhi, the Minister said that the members of the Jury unanimously made the choice.
Speaking on the achievements of Shri Rajinikanth, the Minister said that he is an iconic actor who has ruled the hearts of Indians for over fifty years. The Minister congratulated the legendary actor on the achievement.
In response, Rajnikath expressed his thanks to the Government and the people. In his tweet, he said “My heartfelt thanks to the government of india, respected & dearest @narendramodi ji, @PrakashJavdekar ji and the jury for conferring upon me the prestigious #DadasahebPhalkeAward I sincerely dedicate it to all those who have been a part of my journey. Thanks to the almighty.”
Soon after the declaration, people from various walks of life congratulated him. Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu tweeted “Hearty congratulations to Shri @rajinikanth on being conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Over the past many years, the versatile actor has been enthralling people by portraying a vast array of roles depicting myriad hues of human experience and emotions.#Rajinikanth”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to the tweet and said “Popular across generations, a body of work few can boast of, diverse roles and an endearing personality…that’s Shri @rajinikanth Ji for you. It is a matter of immense joy that Thalaiva has been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him.”
