Four days after Russia approved the first vaccine against Covid – 19, the country has produced the first batch of the new vaccine for the deadly virus, according to reports.
Reports quoted sources at the Russia’s Health Ministry as saying that they have produced the first batch of the vaccine. Even as Russia goes ahead with the production of the vaccine, the scientists around the world have raised doubts over the safety of the drug.
The vaccine developed by Gamaleya research institute is named “ Sputnik V” after the Soviet-era satellite that was the first launched into space in 1957.
Reports quoting officials said that the country would go for industrial production from September. IT is expected to manufacture five million doses per month by December or January.
President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that regulatory approval was given to the vaccine and that one of his daughters has already been inoculated. He claimed that the vaccine underwent necessary tests, was safe and has proven efficient.
The Health Ministry was quoted as saying that the vaccine was expected to provide immunity from the virus for up to two years.
As of now, more than a 100 possible vaccines are being developed around the world. The WHO has already said that four vaccines are in final Phase III human trials.
