The CPM in Kerala is in a spot over the alleged rape case against the party’s state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son Binoy Kodiyeri. The registration of a case of rape against Binoy by Maharashtra Police has already snowballed into a controversy and is likely to haunt the CPM in the coming days.
A rape case against Kodiyeri’s son has been registered in the Oshiwara Police Station on a complaint by a 33 year old woman. After the jolt in the recent parliament elections, the rape allegations against the state secretary’s son come as a major shocker for the party.
In the complaint, the woman alleges that she was sexually assaulted for about eight years and also has a child of eight years in the relation. In the complaint, she said that the relation started when she was working as a danseuse in a Dubai bar hotel and that Binoy had cheated her on the pretext of marrying her. In the Fir, she also states that she was being paid maintenance for many years when she shifted to Mumbai from Dubai.
Meanwhile, Binoy had denied the allegations and alleged that the woman was trying to blackmail him. He alleged that the woman had been threatening him for the last many days and he had registered a complaint with the Kannur police. However, the Kannur police is yet to take action on the complaint.
With the issue becoming a controversy, the national leadership of the party seems to trade a safe path with general secretary Sitaram Yechuri saying that he was not aware of the rape case. He also said that it was a personal case and no need to connect it with the party.
Meanwhile, Politburo member Brinda Karat said that the law will take its own course and that the party has nothing to do with it. She said that it was the responsibility of the person against whom the allegation has come up to prove all of them wrong. The party has nothing to do with it, she said.
It is not the first time that the party is in a fix over Binoy Kodiyeri. In 2018, a businessman in Dubai had accused Binoy of swindling money and had legally moved against him. However, the case was settled out of court.
