Rajasthan is all set to become the first state in India to come up with the Right to Health Care Bill, which is aimed at ensuring the best service to the people.
The process of drafting the historic legislation is on and is likely to be introduced soon, official sources said.
The health department and the government are in full swing for getting the new law introduced at the earliest. Officials said that the government is determined to introduce the bill so that everyone gets the best treatment and service at an affordable price.
The Right to Health Care that is to be introduced is known to have provisions for strengthening the primary health centres, ensuring that the health sub centres function for a long time, make available the service of midwife in sub centres and also ensure that all the health centres have the required facilities.
With out of pocket expense high in the country, the new law is considered to be a step forward in helping the people from coming out of health related poverty. It has been estimated that a lot of people go bankrupt because of the out of pocket expenditure being high. Rajasthan’s initiative is considered to be a beginning for the others to follow.
Right to health care means providing the best treatment free diagnostics, free medicines and having a system of proper grievance redressal.
It has to be noted that that the Congress when fighting the Assembly elections last year had promised that they would bring in the Right to health Care Bill if voted to power. After the elections, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has reiterated that his government would soon come up with the Right to Health Care.
