In International cricket, history was created on January 7 when Australia’s Claire Polosak walked on the Sydney ground as the fourth umpire during the India Australia Men’s test match. She became the first woman to officiate a test match.
As the fourth umpire, she would look after pitch preparation, support for on-field umpires and equipment changes.
Claire Polosak was also the first woman umpire to officiate a one day match between New South Wales and Cricket Australia XI in 2017. Thirty two year old Claire Polosak was one of the twelve on-field umpires for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty. She was also one of the cight on field umpires for the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division. She is also one of the eight women on the ICC Development Panel of Umpires, as named by the International Cricket Council.
She also officiated in matches during the 2019 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament in Scotland and the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. She along with Eloise Sheridan officiated the final of the Women’s Big Bash League season 2020-21.
