Coronavirus has already affected millions of people world around and lakhs of people have become jobless. One in every five people in India is a worried lot of losing their jobs, according to a new survey. Several of the industries and other establishments in the country are closed down, which has only intensified the fear, said the YouGov’s survey. YouGov is an Internet based market research and data analytics firm.
The survey said that about 20 per cent of the people are worried of losing the job. Twenty six per cent believed in pay cut and another eight per cent opined that they would not get any increment or incentives this year. The survey notes that unemployment has already risen to 23.4 percent in the country.
In the survey, they also said that fear level of the people have stabilised over time as the people have been staying home for about three weeks now. The survey also looked into the fear factor of people towards coronavirus. It said that there was marginal decline in the fear. The number of people who used to say that they were very or fairly scared of contracting the virus has come down to 64 percent. Earlier it stood at 66 percent. In older people also, the fear percentage has come down, the survey said.
The survey also noted that the people are worried about the unavailability of essential commodities. YouGov survey was conducted on 1,000 respondents between April 7 and 10.
Another area that the survey looked into was the physical fitness of the people. The survey said that nearly half of the people have started exercising at home. Another interesting fact is that about 46 per cent of the people were making video calls to friends and relatives, who in normal times would not have attempted to this.
