Kerala continued to report more than a hundred corona cases for the seventh consecutive day with the state on Saturday reporting the highest ever count of 195 new active cases on a single day.
Malappuram reported the highest number of 47 cases, followed by 25 in Palakkad district, 22 in Thrissur, 15 in Kottayam, 14 in Ernakulam, 13 in Alappuzha, 12 in Kollam, 11 each in Kannur and Kasargod districts, eight in Kozhikode, six in Pathanamthitta, five in Wayanad, four in Thiruvananthapuram and two in Idukki district, State Health Minister K K Shylaja said.
The Minister also said that 102 covid patients recovered on Saturday, which is also the highest number of recoveries on a single day.
Of the newly diagnosed cases, 118 came from abroad and 62 from other states. The country-wise details are Kuwait – 62, UAE – 26, Saudi Arabia – 8, Oman – 8, Qatar – 6, Bahrain – 5, Kazakhistan – 2 and Egypt – 1. The state-wise details are Tamil Nadu-19, Delhi-13, Maharashtra-11, Karnataka-10, West Bengal-3, Madhya Pradesh-3, Telangana-1, Andhra Pradesh-1 and Jammu Kashmir-1.
Fifteen people were infected because of local transmission, the minister informed. Ten people in Malappuram district, two in Kollam and one each in Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kannur districts are those who contracted the disease through contact.
She noted that 2,108 patients have recovered till now and 1,939 patients are undergoing treatment.
A total of 1,67,978 people are currently under quarantine across the state. Of these, 1,65,515 are under home or institutional quarantine and 2,463 are in hospitals. 281 people were admitted to the hospital today.
Shylaja said that 6,166 samples were tested on Saturday. So far, a total of 2,15,243 samples have been sent for testing and of these, the results of 4,032 samples are yet to come, she added. As part of Sentinel Surveillance, 44,129 samples were collected from priority groups such as health workers, migrant labourers and those with high public exposure and 42,411 samples were negative.
