For the last many days, Kerala’s has seen an increase in Covid cases with fresh cases emerging every other day. On June 1, the state recorded 57 new cases and one death.
Addressing the media, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said 57 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed while 18 patients tested negative. With one more death reported in Kozhikode, a total of ten persons have died of Corionaviruis in the state, he added.
Among the 57 cases reported on June 1, 14 persons are from Malappuram and Kasargod districts, nine from Thrissur, five from Kollam, four from Pathanamthitta, three each from Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam districts, two each from Alappuzha and Palakkad districts and one from Idukki district. With respect to the positive cases, 27 had come from overseas (UAE-11, Kuwait-10, Qatar-4, Saudi Arabia-1 and Russia-1) and 28 from other states (Maharashtra-19, Tamil Nadu-4, Karnataka-3 and Delhi -2). An Air India employee and a health worker in Palakkad district are among those infected.
The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the State is 1,326 and 708 are still under treatment in various districts, the Chief Minister said. The state has a total of 1,39,661 people under observation. Of these, 1,38,397 are under home or institutional quarantine and 1,264 are isolated in hospitals. 174 persons were admitted to the hospital today.
Till now, 68,979 samples have been sent for testing and 65,273 samples have come out negative,. In addition, as part of Sentinel Surveillance of high-risk group people, 13,470 samples were collected and 13,037 samples have tested negative. In the last 24 hours, 2,990 samples have been sent for testing, Vijayan said.
Five new places were declared as hotspots today, three in Palakkad district and two in Kannur district. There are presently 121 hotspots in Kerala.
