Kerala, which has seen a surge in the covid graph after people stared to come from abroad and other states, on Saturday (May 23) reported 62 new cases. Most of the people who tested positive for coronavirus were those who travelled from abroad and other states.
“Sixty two new confirmed cases were reported in the state on Saturday,: Health minister K K Shylaja said. Nineteen persons were confirmed of coronavirus in Palakkad district, 16 in Kannur, eight in Malappuram, five in Alappuzha, four each in Kozhikode and Kasaragod, three in Kollam, two in Kottayam and one person was confirmed in Wayanad district.
The Minister said that 31 persons who were confirmed to have the virus gtravelled from other states. (Maharashtra-13, Tamil Nadu-12, Gujarat-2, Karnataka-2, Uttar Pradesh-1 & Delhi-1) and 18 have come back from abroad (UAE-9, Saudi Arabia-3, Kuwait-2, Maldives-1, Singapore-1, Muscat-1 & Qatar-1). The other 13 persons were infected through local transmission. This includes seven health workers – three in Palakkad district and two each from Kannur and Kozhikode districts.
She also said that three patients under treatment for Coronavirus tested negative on Saturday. So far 515 patients have been cured from Covid.
The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Kerala stands at 794. About 91,084 persons are under observation in various districts. Of these, 90,416 are under surveillance in their homes or in institutional quarantine centres and 668 are isolated in hospitals.
The Minister said that samples from 52,771 people were till now sent for testing and 51,045 samples turned out to negative. As part of sentinel surveillance, 7,672 samples from people in high-risk category were tested separately. Of these, 7,147 samples tested negative. In the last 24 hours, 2,026 samples were tested.
Nine places were declared hotspots — seven in Kannur district, and one each in Palakkad and Kottayam districts. There are 37 hotspots in the State now.
Till now, 88,640 people arrived in the State from abroad and other States.
