Aimed at providing good and hygienic food in the state, the Kerala Government is coming up with Thattukada (way side eateries) across the stateThattukada kerala . Locally known as Thattukada, this is going to be the first such venture in the government sector.
Thattukadas or way side eateries have been flourishing in the state with people looking forward for inexpensive but easily available food. They have become a part of life of the people in Kerala. Most of the Thattukadas are open in the evening to night timings.
The first one is expected to be opened at Alappuzha. The Alappuzha district collector has been asked to speed up the process for opening the first one. The decision was taken at a recent meeting of the state level advisory committee under the Food Safety Department. The second one is to be opened at Shashtamangalam in Thiruvanathapuram and Fort Kochi in Ernakulam.
The meeting also decided to open a model street food hub at Varkala. The Thattukadas will be opened adhering to all food safety guidelines and also have proper waste management system. The Thattukadas will be run by Kudumbasree.
In the meeting of the state level advisory committee, it was also decided to strengthen the food safety measures in the state. The Food Safety Department would also give ‘Safe to purchase, Safe to eat’ tag to the shops and hotels that adhere to food safety norms. Moreover, the state government has also decided to appoint food control inspectors across the state.
