The Left Democratic Front government in Kerala disbursed Rs 1,703 crore from the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund in the last five years, State Finance Minister TM Thomas Isaac said.
The previous United Democratic Front led government had only disbursed Rs 553 crore in their period, he claimed. The minister was speaking at Thiruvananthapuram during the Santhwana Sparsam, a grievance redressal adalat to address the issues faced by the public.
Noting that the government’s first priority was to provide relief to the people, he said that the Santhwana Sparsam was a continuation of the government’s approach to provide as much relief to the people as possible. “Do not misunderstand that this is an election-oriented event,” he said.
During the Covid 19 period, the government intervened wherever the people could find relief Issac said.
The loss of employment and income during the pandemic has hit the country and the world hard, the Minister said. However, the state government was determined that no one went hungry during the crisis. “The government provided a monthly welfare pension, food kits and rations,” he said.
GOOD ROADS AND EXCELLENT EDUCATION
Apart from this, the Minister also mentioned that the LDF government gave priority to the future development of the state. “Kerala today has good roads, excellent schools and state-of-the-art hospitals. This development change does not end there,” he said. The Finance Minister pointed out that the government was for innovative programs to ensure that the children of the common man got better jobs.
Meanwhile, Fisheries Minister J Mercy kutty Amma said the Adalat was a continuation of the government’s policy of intervening swiftly and vigilantly in the suffering of the people. “From the very beginning, the Kerala government has adopted a policy of providing relief to the masses,” she said.
