Indian Railways distributes 2 million free meals

The Indian Railways has distributed about two million free meals across the country in about 300 places till April 20. The Railways said that they provided free meals to the most vulnerable in the society such as daily wage labourers, migrants, children, coolies, homeless, the poor and many who form the floating population.

It said that majority of the Indian Railway Staff participated in the service. The RPF and the GRP personnel and NGOs contributed in delivering the food to needy persons.

While the IRCTC provided about 11.6 lakhs of cooked meals, the RPF provided about 3.6 lakh meals. Commercial and other departments of Railways provided 1.5 lakh meals. Various NGOs and other Railways organisations contributed 3.8 lakhs of cooked meals. While delivering meals, hygiene and social distancing is maintained.

The Indian railways have been tirelessly on the service of feeding the needy from March 28. The IRCTC base kitchens in New Delhi, Mumbai Central, Hubli, Bangalore, Bhusaval, Howrah, Gaya, Ahmedabad, Patna, Ranchi, Katihar, Tiruchirapalli, Balasore, Vijaywada, Khurda, Katpadi, Dhanbad, Guwahati, Samastipur, Prayagraj, Itarsi, Vishakhapatnam, Chengalpatu, Pune, Hajipur, Raipur and Tatanagar and various other kitches in the Northern, Western, Eastern, Southern and South Central regions were used to prepare the meals.
