South Asia, which has witnessed an increase of the coronavirus for the last several weeks, is at the risk of covid 19 explosion, according to the World Health Organisation.
“In South Asia, not just in India, but in Bangladesh and… Pakistan and other countries of South Asia with large dense populations, the disease has not exploded, but there is always the risk of that happening,” WHO’s top emergency expert Dr. Mike Ryan said.
The number of corona cases in India and other South Asian countries has been doubling every three weeks. However, the WHO said that the epidemic was not growing exponentially.
Meanwhile, WHO’s chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan said that the number of about two lakh cases reported in India against a population of 1.3 billion was still modest taking into account the size of the country.
