IMDs 24 x 7 MET App

Among the negative impacts of extreme weather events around the world is one that most people may not think of: an increase in child marriages.

In three months, one can have all information regarding weather forecast and warnings at the finger tips. Aimed at providing speedy and accurate information on weather updates, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is for launching its own App for giving 24 x 7 weather forecasts.

Though the IMD has been making predictions and coming out with regular forecasts, the benefits were not reaching the people and as such the department thought of the App to directly reach the public.

The IMD will be modelling the App on the US based web App- AccuWeather, which is one of the weather Apps in the world. The IMD official has made it clear that the App would be made public in three months.

The App is being designed to be user friendly, which will provide hourly update as well as minute to minute updates.  The App will cover all aspects of weather such as rain, temperature, humidity, wind speed and wind direction. The App will also flash warnings as well as advisories on the handsets.

The weather App will collect data from all government forecast models and also parameters around the world. The Met officials pointed out that it would be a complete App with all details and information.

The MET department already has an App for farmers – Meghdoot- which has been widely accepted. Meghdoot helps the farmers to get accurate information on weather as well as agro/ crop advisories.
