Half of American population is younger

More Americans say being a man helps than hurts a person’s ability to get ahead in the United States these days, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey. By contrast, more Americans say being a woman hurts rather than helps.

More than half of American population are younger or part of millennial generation, according to a new analysis. The data showed that the millennial generation were 166 million as of 2019, which made 50.7 per cent of the total population.

As per the Brookings’ analysis, 162 million Americans were associated with the combined Gen X, baby boomer, and older cohorts. The Brookings’ said that the numbers could be shocking to the American people, especially baby boomers. For these set of people, “millennial” is a term associated with a youthful, often negative, vibe in terms of habits, ideology, and politics. The analysis shows the oldest millennial was 39. With the number of millennial population exceeding those of baby boomers, the former will take over influential roles in business and government.

Millennial are a group of people who are born between 1981 and 1996. Baby boomers, long considered a primary driver of demographic and social change in the US because of their large numbers, were born between the end of World War II and the arrival of the Beatles in the US in 1964.

Generation Hers are the groups of people who are were born in the late 1960s and 1970s (between boomers and millennials).  The Generation Z are those who are born after 1996.

Those under the age of 40 are more diverse than the older people. Almost half of them identify as being part of a racial or ethnic minority. The Brookings’ analysis says that past surveys have shown that the younger generations split from the older generations on issues such as immigration reform, environmental protection and criminal justice reform.
