Goa looking to revive tourism with Christmas-New Year festivities

Goa, one of the favourite tourist destinations for the domestic and the foreign visitors, is looking to revive its tourism with a slew of festivities during the Christmas season, after the state witness almost 30% fall in arrivals in the recent months.

Upcoming music events, like the Sunburn Klassique, along with Christmas-New Year festivities are expected to improve the flow of tourists, according to the tourism authorities.

Goa has been one of the most sought-after places for the celebrities and the families to celebrate New Year. The hoteliers are looking for healthy numbers during the season.

Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) is also planing a number of steps to boost tourism. It has floated tender for giant wheel, meet and greet lounge services, heritage boat cruise and experiential tours.

Recently, it has introduced bungee jumping at the Mayem lak and also there are plans to restart heli rides at Ela in Old Goa. Among the long-term plans, a sea plan service also could materialise.

Russians have topped the list of foreign tourists in the coastal state for the last couple of decades. In 2018, nearly 300,000 Russians arrived, most of them between October and March.

Goa is regarded as one of the top beach and nightlife tourism destinations in the country. Thousands of youngsters and music lovers have thronged Goa in the past to participate in electronic dance music events.
