From Exile to Triumph: The Real-Life Saga Behind ‘Aadujeevitham’

After an enduring wait, the Prithviraj-Blessy-Benyamin team has officially announced the release date for the film “Aadujeevitham” (The Goat Life) on April 10, 2024. This cinematic endeavour is based on Benyamin’s novel, recounting the harrowing true story of a man from Kerala named Najeeb, who endured a nearly two-year exile on a goat farm in an unknown Saudi Arabian desert. The protagonist, Najeeb, faced indescribable miseries during this period, and Benyamin’s novel, depicting his life as a goatherd, became a best-seller in Malayalam literature.

The real-life Najeeb Muhammad resides in Arattupuzha, a coastal village in Alappuzha. After escaping the clutches of an Arab landlord in Saudi Arabia, where he experienced days of walking through the desert without food and water, Najeeb reached a city where a fellow Malayali provided assistance, leading to his surrender to the police. Deported to India in August 1995, he later spent around 20 years in Bahrain before returning to his native land. Currently working as a fisherman in Arattupuzha, Najeeb reflects on his journey, acknowledging the blessings of ‘Allah’ for his survival.

“Cinema is a powerful medium to narrate stories that resonate with the heart. Aadujeevitham is one such narrative.”Blessy, Director

Najeeb’s son, Safeer, ventured to Bahrain for livelihood and worked in a scrap material company for over two decades. After leaving his job in 2021 due to the Covid pandemic, he returned to his native place, working as a daily wager and assisting fishermen on ‘Ponthuvallam.’

In the vast desolation of the Saudi desert, Najeeb’s tale unfolds—a narrative that transcends words.”Benyamin, Author

Despite the challenges, Najeeb finds contentment in constructing a house and witnessing his daughter’s marriage, although he laments the absence of a pathway to his land.

“Aadujeevitham stands as a testament to the strength of the human spirit, a story that needed to be told.”Prithviraj, Lead Actor

Expressing happiness about the impending release of the film based on his life, Najeeb emphasizes the need for the narrative to shed light on the plight of those who, like him, went to the Gulf with dreams of a better life. He has visited the film’s shooting sets, engaging with actor Prithviraj and director Blessy. Writer Benyamin continues to offer support, having provided financial assistance during Najeeb’s daughter’s marriage. The anticipation is palpable for Najeeb, who eagerly looks forward to watching the film in the theatre with his family.
