In Assam, Couples of inter-community marriages are deprived of rights and property. They also face social boycott. As such these couples find it hard to make a living. They suffer a lot because of the hardships they face from the society.
Board chairman Alok Kumar Ghose said they intend to help these inter-community couples for starting a life of their own. They can use the money for doing business or opening shop or even use it in farming. He said that the Board gave the proposal to the government two days back. The Noard is developibg a website for these inter-community couples to register online, he added.
Meanwhile, the Board’s proposal has invited criticism from many quarters. The All Assam Minority Students’ Union has alleged that this was an attempt of religious polarisation.
