We all know that Air pollution causes lung diseases. But a new study reveals that kidney issues are likely to develop in people living in highly polluted cities. As such, people in India and China where air pollution is at its highest is likely to develop renal issues.
There are only a few studies that have looked into how air pollution impacts kidney. The Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology published the findings. Matthew F Blum (Johns Hopkins University), one of the researchers, said that one should understand the impact of air pollution in kidney as renal failure has increased in recent times.
The study found that exposure to higher amounts of fine particulate matter was closely related to higher degree of albuminuria. These albuminuria are markers of kidney dysfunction. Fine particulate matter comes from various sources such as fossil fuel, industrial pollution and natural sources.
