Ethnicity is a major factor in determining the death rate with respect to cornavirus, a new study from the UK said. Black men and women are four times more likely to die from Covid related issues than white men and women, the Office for National Statistics report said.

The Office for National Statistics is an independent agency that coordinates official statistics in the UK. The report said that people of Bangladeshi and Pakistani, Indian, and Mixed ethnicities had a higher risk of death when compared with the White ethnicity.

When Black males are 4.2 times more likely to die from Corona related death, black females are 4.3 times more likely to die than White ethnicity males and females. It noted that males of Pakistani and Bangladeshi ethnic group were 1.8 times more likely to die than White males. The study also said that a higher risk among males than females was found in Chinese ethnic group.

The Office for National Statistics said that the difference of deaths across ethnic groups could be related to demographic and socioeconomic factors. A person’s past health profile will also factor, the study said.

The Office for National Statistics is a recognised national statistical institute. They conduct the census in England and Wales every 10 years.
