Global shortage of condom is in sight after major condom manufactures in lockdown of its factories in the coronavirus impact.
Reports said that world’s largest condom manufacturers Karex Bhd have been hit badly with the global lockdown. India and China manufactures the largest quantity of condoms for the Malayasia based company. The two countries are facing a national lockdown because of the coronavirus.
Karex Bhd. makes one out of every five condoms made in the world. The company has not produced a single condom in the last ten days, which aggravates the situation. Company Chief Executive Goh Miah Kiat said that situation would take some days top overcome. In sme countries, it could take months to overcome the crisis.As of now, factories in some places have started functioning. But only a few workers run the factory now and as sucg production has not yet gathered momentum, he said.
A shortfall of 100 million condoms is reported across the world. Goh Miah Kiat said that all countries will see major shortage of condoms. The concern raised is that it could affect many of the programmes in some of the countries, especially in Africa. Goh Miah Kiat said that the shortage would last for months.-
