Corona: Testing and recovery rates pick up in India

Though India has reported the highest number of new cases on May 3, it has also done well in testing and the number of recoveries, according to the data available.

According to the Union Ministry of Health recordds, the country reported 2,553 new infections and 72 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in India. But nearly 12,000 patients (11,706) have recovered or have been discharged from hospitals across the country.

The official sources also claimed that the testing has gone up five times during the last 40 days period of lockdown. The ICMR has reached a per day testing level of about 70,000 and has conducted 10,40,000 tests till Saturday. This was just 14,000 tests on March 23. Around 85% of Covid-19 tests have been carried out at government labs.

An analysis of the data available in the worldmeter also says that the testing has improved. On April 16, the average was just 19.9 per a million population. This has gone up to 802 per million people now.

Though the country reported highest number of new cases, the death rate has come down. India reported just 68 deaths on May 3, against 100 fatalities on May 2, according to the website.

It also says that recoveries are at the highest level. The country reported 936 recoveries on May 1 and another 812 on May 2. This went up to 950 on May 3, recording the highest number so far.
