Though we are still flooded with bad news about the corona virus, there are still some points that we can rely and hope for the best in the coming days. That is more important to keep us sane during these dark days.
Total cases: A total of 722,196 cases as of this morning, with 33,976 deaths in 197 countries
More people recover: As many as 151,766 people recovered. Yesterday the number was 133363.
Mostly mild cases: 509,773 (95%) of the total active cases are still in mild condition
Indian cases: 901 active cases, 95 cured and discharged and 27 deaths, according to the Union Health Ministry. As many as 15,24,268 people have been screened at the airports.
Telangana to be Corona-free: Telangana government plans to discharge at least 11 patients who were undergoing treatment for COVID-19 in the state. The state Chiefe Minister hoped that the state will be free from corona by April 7.
No Community Transmission yet: ICMR still maintained that there was no instances of community transmission yet. “If we all observe the lockdown strictly then there’s a chance that we will soon reach the peak number of cases,” according to an official of the ICMR.
Infections decline in Italy: Though deaths and infections continue to rise in Italy, one of the worst-affected countries, reports suggested that there is a slight decline in the number of new cases for the last four days. The confirmed cases increased by 7.4 percent against the 8.0 percent in previous days. The head of the national health institute Silvio Brusaferro predicted a peak “in the next few days”.
China situation: Mainland China reported 31 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, including one locally transmitted infection, the country’s National Health Commission said, dropping from 45 cases a day earlier. Hubei province, where the coronavirus outbreak first emerged in late 2019, reported no new cases for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday after the province of 60 million people lifted its traffic restrictions and resumed some domestic flights to other parts of China.
Portable Test: A US company has unveiled a portable test that can tell if someone has COVID-19 in as little as five minutes. Abbott Laboratories said the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had given it emergency authorization to begin making the test available to healthcare providers as early as next week. The test, which is the size of a small toaster and uses molecular technology, also shows negative results within 13 minutes, the company said in a press statement.
Historic drug trial: As many as 43 companies are already working on vaccines, using different approaches ranging from using antibodies, to using antivirals, to using Ribonucleic Acid (RNA)-based treatments. At least 24 of them are into clinical trials stage. The World Health Organisation (WHO) on March 27 announced a Solidarity Trial to test and compare the effectiveness of four different drugs or drug combinations against COVID-19. The trial is underway in Norway and will have over 45 countries participating.The first human trials for a vaccine are underway in the United States, with a vaccine developed by Moderna Therapeutics (a biotechnology company) and funded by the National Institutes of Health.
