Corona: Positive Updates today (06/04/20)

The situation continues to be grim with more bad news coming up from everywhere. But, there are also glimmers of hope as the world together fights back, locking themselves inside the homes. Here are a few updates:

Total cases: A total of 12,74,904 cases as of this morning, with 69k496 deaths in 197 countries.

More people recover: As many as 265,863 people recovered.

Mostly mild cases: 893,647 (95%) of the total active cases are still in mild condition.

Global Recovery picking up: Spain has reported recovery of 38,080 people while the US showed the number of recoveries at 17,977. Italy (21,815), China (77,078), Germany (28700), Iran (22,011) also showed good recovery rate.

Indian cases: As per the Union Health Ministry, there are 3666 active cases in India, with 109 deaths. As many as 291 have recovered.

Hope getting stronger in Italy: Europe as a whole and Italy in particular showed signs of hope. Sunday, the death toll at 525 was the lowest in more than two weeks and infection is on downward. Italy recorded 4,316 new cases Sunday. Earlier in the outbreak, daily increases in caseloads topped the 6,000 mark.

Spain: New deaths dropped for the third straight day. Spain announced 6,023 confirmed new infections Sunday, taking its national tally to 130,759 but down from an increase of 7,026 infections in the previous day. Spain’s confirmed new virus deaths dropped for the third straight day, to 674 — the first time daily deaths have fallen below 800 in the past week.

US Situation: America as a whole and New York in particular are bracing for the hard phase. But still, the authorities hope for the best. As slight dip is seen in the number of deaths. New York reported 594 new coronavirus deaths on Sunday — a small decrease compared to the 630 new fatalities announced the day before. ICU admissions and intubations were also down, while the discharge rate from hospitals was rising. The country recorded more than 5,600 coronavirus deaths, according to data collected by Johns Hopkins University. It has confirmed more than 236,000 cases of the disease.

Big hope by Australian scientists: Perhaps the biggest hope of the day will be from Australia where the researchers claimed that an anti-parasitic drug could kill corona virus grown in cell cultures within 48 hours. The drug, Ivermectin, stopped the virus, SARS-CoV-2.

“We found that even a single dose could essentially remove all viral RNA by 48 hours and that even at 24 hours there was a really significant reduction in it,” said study co-author Kylie Wagstaff from Monash University in Australia.

“Ivermectin is very widely used and seen as a safe drug. We need to figure out now whether the dosage you can use it at in humans will be effective – that’s the next step,” Wagstaff said.
