Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday, April 8, tested positive for Covid 19. His daughter Veena Vijayan and son-in-law P A Mohammed Riyas had earlier tested positive.
Chief Minister himself tweeted that he was tested Covid positive. “I have been confirmed Covid +ve. Will get treated at the Government Medical College, Kozhikkode. Request those who have been in contact with me recently to go into self observation,” he said in the tweet.

The Chief Minister is now in his home in Kannur. He will be shortly shifted to Kozhikode Medical College. He had taken the first dose of Covid vaccine on March 3. Veena Vijayan has cast her vote at a polling station in Kannur wearing PPE Kit. Riyas was the LDF candidate in Beypore Constituency.
During the election campaign, Vijayan had travelled across the state widely.
Surge in Covid Cases
The state has seen a surge in Covid 19 cases in the last some weeks. Kerala reported 4353 Covid 19 cases on Thursday and the test positivity rate stood at 6.81. The health Department said that the source of infection of 3858 patients was not known.
Ernakulam district reported the highest number of 617 cases. Kozhikode was the next with 439 cases. When Thiruvananthapuram district reported 329 cases, Thrissur recorded 384, Malappuram 343, Kannur 252, Kottayam 290, Kollam 274, Alappuzha 236, Kasargode 211, palakkad 81, Waynad 166, pathanamthitta 125 and Idukki district reported 111 Covid 19 cases.
A total of 63,901 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the total samples tested till now stood at 1,35,78,641.
Covid 19 also affected 25 health workers in the last 24 hours.
