For the first time in India, breast feeding mothers are going to get feeding rooms in world famous historic monuments, including the Taj Mahal.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has decided to provide feedings rooms not only in Taj Mahal but also in Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. ASI official was quoted by the media as saying that it was for the first time that feeding rooms are being provided in historical monuments.
The ASI had taken such a decision taking into account breastfeeding while outside. Moreover, the official said that the situation was not better at times of heavy rush. It is said that separate rooms would be ready within two months.
Mothers seen feeding their babes had been even asked to leave the monuments in some foreign countries. Breast feeding is not allowed inside monuments in some countries. Though there are no such restrictions in India, there is still a social stigma related to feeding in public.
