Bangladeshis must be in the news for wrong reasons now, with the nation-wide protests over citizens amendment act.
But, there are are right reasons also for them to be in the news. Because, one in every foreign tourist arriving in India is from Bangladesh.


According to the details available with the Tourism Ministry, for the last three years, Bangladesh topped the list of source markets for Indian tourism. Nearly 1.38 million foreign tourists arrived from Bangladesh in 2016. These numbers went to 2.15 million in 2017 and 2.25 million in 2018.

The total number of foreign tourist arrivals increased from 8.8 million in 2016 to 10.04 million in 2017 and 10.56 million in 2018. Forex earnings through tourism increased from $22.92 billion in 2016 to $27.31 billion in 2017 and $28.58 billion in 2018.
United States stood as the second market. The visitors from the US increased from 1.27 million in 2016 to 1.37 million in 2017 and 2.25 million on 2018. The United Kingdom was third on the list.
