Indian actor and equestrian Randeep Hooda is the new ambassador for aquatic species of Convention on Migratory Species. He will be the ambassador till 2023.
A famous film actor, he has stood for environmental causes such as wildlife protection and welfare of animals. He is also credited with generating public awareness for cleaning up beaches in Mumbai. Hooda is also a professional wildlife photographer. He has over a million followers in Instagram.
After his appointment as ambassador of CMS, he said he will take conservation from conferences to local cooperation. Many of the species are under threat and need to be protected at all cost, he added.
He said that migration was important not only for the birds and animals but also for the earth. He pointed out that these species made the world a healthy and more diverse place.
On Aquatic species, he noted that they are not at all discussed. He opined that biodiversity underwater needs to be conserved.
Hooda was born in Rohtak in Haryana. He studied in Sonepat, where he began acting. He did his postgraduate degree in human resource management in Melbourne. On his return to India, he took up modelling and acting.
