96000 Covid cases in India, but recovery rate also picks up

India has surpassed China in the number of Covid-19 cases and the country entered into a another lockdown starting from May 18. But the good news still is that the fatality rate is still low and recovery rate is high, compared to many other countries.

India recorded single-largest spike of 5,242 new cases in 24 hours, and reported a death toll of 157 during the same period, according to the official data from the Union Health Ministry.

The total number of cases in the country is now 96,169. Of this, 56,316 are active cases. As many as 3,029 people have succumbed to the infection while 36,823 people have been cured.

India’s fatality rate had fallen to 3.1% and the recovery rate has improved to 37.5%, according for the Health Ministry.

The lockdown 4.0 will be for two weeks till May 31 from today. The Centre has made some relaxations including those in travel, while strict enforcement will continue in badly-hit places.
