93.84 percent health workers vaccinated for Covid 19

About 3.35 lakh health workers and 50,151 frontline fighters received Covid 19 vaccination until Thursday, February 18, which makes it 93.84 per cent of the health workers in government and private institutions receiving vaccination.

Kerala health Minister K K Shylaja said that 93.84 per cent of government and private sector health workers, Asha and Anganwadi workers in the state received the first phase vaccination.

She said that pregnant women, persons who had registered twice, those who could not receive vaccination for various health reasons and those who refused to take vaccination were excluded from the list. Of the total 3,57,797 registered workers, 3,35,754 got vaccination, she added.

The Minister also said that the health professionals who were unable to get the vaccine for some reason after registering should receive vaccination. She said that 100 per cent of health workers registered for vaccination in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Malappuram districts took the vaccine. While 99.11 per cent of the health workers in Palakkad received vaccination, 99.01 per cent in Kollam district and 98.88 per cent in Wayanad district received the vaccination. Those who took the first dose of the vaccine were given the second dose.

As part of the drive, the Minister said that 1,44,003 police, army, central armed forces, municipal, panchayat and revenue employees have registered for the second phase of vaccination.

COVID CASES

Kerala on February 18 recorded 4584 Covid 19 and the test positivity rate stood at 6.79

Kozhiokode district reported the highest number of 638 cases. While Ernakulam reported 609 covid cases, ;pathanamthitta recorded 492 cases. Kollam reported 366 cases,  Kottayam 361, Thrissur 346, Thiruvananthapuram 300, Alappuzha 251, Kannur 211, Kasargode 176, Wayanad 133, Palakkad 130 and Idukki 78 Covid cases on February 18.

Test positivity rate comes down

In the last 24 hours, 67,506 samples were tested and the test positivity rate stood at 6.79, Minister Shylaja said. The tests included routine sample test, Sentinel sample test, CBNAT, TRUNAT, POCT. PCR, RTLAMP and Antigen tests.

4046 deaths recorded until now

With 14 Covid related deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the total deaths due to Covid 19 stood at 4046.

Ninety-five persons diagnosed with the disease are from outside the state. A total of 4184 people were infected through contact and the source of 279 people are not known.

Covid 19 also affected 26 health workers in the last 24 hours.

About 2.54 lakh people are under surveillance in various districts of the state. Of these, 2,46351 are under home or institutional quarantine and 9506 in hospitals across the state.
