87 per cent of Covid deaths in India among people above 45 years

More than 87 per cent of the deaths related to Covid- 19 in India were among those aged above 45 years, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The Ministry came up with a data after analysing the total number of coronavirus related deaths based on age and gender. The country has reported 60,472 deaths till Thursday, August 27.   The Ministry carried out an analysis of the total Covid deaths based on age and gender.

One per cent of patients below 17 years of age died. The same was with patients in the 18-25 age groups. 11 per cent of deaths were reported in the age group of 26-44 and 36 per cent deaths in the age group of 45-60.

The Ministry also said that 51 per cent of deaths were reported in people aged 60 years and above. It said that only one per cent of the patients below 17 years of age died. The same percentage was with respect to deaths in the age group of 18- 25.  It said that 11 per cent of deaths were reported in the age group of 26-44 and 36 per cent deaths in the age group of 45-60.

The Ministry also noted that the death rate in males were double that of females. It said that 69 per cent of the dead were males.
