As millions of children in the US soon return to school, a new study reveals that at least 3,380,00 children in the US tested positive through July 30.
It is reported that 97,000 children in the country was infected with COVID-19 in the two weeks of July. Some of the schools in the US had opened but later had to order quarantines or close after coronavirus cases were reported among the students and staff.
The American Academy of Paediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association in its report pointed out that states in the South and West accounted for more than seven of 10 infections.
Alaska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nevada, Montana and Idaho were among the states with the highest percentage increase of child infections during that period. In most of the places, the children infected were no older than 17 or 19 years of age. However, the age limit was 24 years in Alabama and 14 years in Florida and Utah, reports said.
The Public Health officials have stated that children are less prone to the virus. However, a new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US, found that a new, more dangerous Coronavirus condition known as multisystem inflammatory syndrome has struck children of colour far more often than whites.
