Centre team to visit flood affected states

In the wake of devastating floods that ripped many states, including Kerala, the Centre has decided to send a Ministerial central team to the states for evaluating the damage caused by the floods.

The decision was taken at the high level meeting convened by Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday. The ministerial team would visit the states of Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya.

The meeting also took stock of the flood situation and the service of the NDRF and defence forces. In the meeting, it was said that the combined effort of the defence forces, coast guard, NDRF and others helped in the evacuation of more than 1.5 lakh people in the affected states. Shah has directed to take all possible measure to deal with the flood situation.

Meanwhile, the High Level Committee also approved an assistance of Rs 4432.10 crore to the states of Odisha, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh. Odisha was allotted Rs 3338.22 for the losses in Cyclone Fani, Karnataka gets Rs 1029.30 crore for drought and Himachal Pradesh was allotted Rs 64.49 crore for hailstorm and avalanche.

In 2018-19, an amount of Rs 9658 crore was released by the Centre to the states. In this fiscal, the Centre said that an amount of Rs 6104 crore has been released to the 24 states.
