With the Rajya Sabha also giving the nod for the National Medical Commission (NMC), the doctors in the country have decided to fight the bill tooth and nail in the coming days. The Doctors under the banner of the Indian Medical Association have already kickstarted agitations in many states and also in the national capital.

Though the bill has been passed in the Rajya Sabha with some amendments, the IMA has said that they were not going to give up their fight against the anti-people and anti-democratic law that would lead to creating quacks.

IMA Kerala Chapter Secretary Dr N Sulphi said that the Bill passed in the Rajya Sabha with certain amendments still had some provisions that were anti-democratic and that were detrimental to the health sector.

He said that the Association’s emergency action council will meet on Sunday to chalk out the strategies for further agitation. The meeting at Aluva will decide the mode of agitation, which would be in accordance to the national leadership, he said.

The hunger strike started by the Medical Students in front of the Kerala Raj Bhavan would now be shifted to their respective medical colleges, where they would go on a relay hunger strike.  Earlier, the medical students had burned the copy of the NMC Bill.

The students of medicine across the country would be observing a protest day on Friday. Various Doctor’s organisations have extended their support to the agitation
